Target Information

TGF-beta is a ubiquitously expressed cytokine that signals through the Smad protein family to regulate numerous cellular processes such as embryonic development and tumorigenesis.
This signaling is negatively regulated by Ski and SnoN. SnoN binds to Smad proteins, preventing their phosphorylation and subsequent DNA binding, thus inhibiting transcriptional activation of downstream genes.
In cancer tissues or cells, SnoN is mainly nuclear, while in normal tissues or primary epithelial cells, it is cytoplasmic.
