Target Information
Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases with diverse physiological functions. Many kallikreins are implicated in carcinogenesis and have potential as biomarkers for cancer and other diseases. The KLK8 gene belongs to a cluster of fifteen kallikrein subfamily members on chromosome 19. The encoded protein may participate in proteolytic cascades in the skin and serve as a biomarker for ovarian cancer. Alternate splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
