Target Information
The PHGDH gene encodes an enzyme involved in the early steps of L-serine synthesis in animal cells.
L-serine is essential for D-serine and other amino acid synthesis.
This enzyme requires NAD/NADH as a cofactor and forms homotetramers for its activity.
Mutations in PHGDH have been associated with congenital microcephaly, psychomotor retardation, and related symptoms.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, though not all full-length forms are characterized.
