Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Collagen IX alpha 1.

Target Information

COL9A1 encodes one of the three alpha chains of type IX collagen, a minor component (5–20%) of hyaline cartilage. Type IX collagen typically coexists with type II collagen and contributes to the structural integrity of cartilage. Knockout mouse studies show that the alpha 1 chain is essential for assembly of type IX collagen molecules. Deficiency of this protein leads to early-onset osteoarthritis. Mutations in the COL9A1 gene are associated with osteoarthritis, multiple epiphyseal dysplasia type 6, and Stickler syndrome, which involves ophthalmic, orofacial, articular, and auditory abnormalities.
