Target Information

CDK9 is a serine/threonine kinase that forms an active holoenzyme complex with Cyclin T1, playing a key role in regulating the eukaryotic cell cycle. It regulates cytokine-inducible transcription networks by facilitating promoter recognition of target transcription factors and promotes RNA synthesis in genetic programs for cell growth, differentiation, and viral pathogenesis.
The CDK9/Cyclin-K complex also has kinase activity toward the CTD of RNAPII and can substitute for CDK9/Cyclin-T P-TEFb in vitro. Chronic activation of CDK9 may cause cardiac myocyte enlargement leading to cardiac hypertrophy and predisposition to heart failure.
