BEST3는 BEST1, BEST2, BEST4를 포함하는 베스트로핀(anion channel) 단백질 패밀리에 속합니다. BEST1은 비텔리폼 황반이상증(VMD)과 관련된 유전자이며, 베스트로핀 단백질들은 방향족 잔기가 풍부한 RFP 모티프(arg-phe-pro)를 포함하는 보존된 영역을 공유합니다. 이 유전자들은 8개의 RFP-TM 도메인을 암호화하는 엑손 구조가 유사하며, 엑손-인트론 경계가 매우 보존되어 있습니다. 각 베스트로핀 유전자는 고유한 3'-말단 서열을 가집니다.
