The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily, which mediates molecular transport across cellular membranes.
MRP4 is part of the multidrug resistance-associated protein (MRP) subfamily.
Although its precise function is not fully defined, MRP4 may contribute to cellular detoxification by exporting organic anions.
Alternative splicing generates multiple isoforms of this protein.
