Target Information
CAP-E and CAP-C (Chromosome Associated Protein-E & C) are SMC (Structural Maintenance of Chromosome) family members that form a heterodimeric complex required for mitotic chromosome condensation and proper segregation of genetic information during cell division.
The hCAP-C/hCAP-E complex, known as condensin, interacts with phosphorylated Histone H3 to facilitate chromosome condensation.
Distinct distribution patterns of the two heterodimeric complexes in interphase nuclei suggest independent roles during the cell cycle, indicating involvement in different aspects of mitotic chromosome organization in human cells.
