Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the transmembrane 4 superfamily (tetraspanin family). These cell-surface proteins have four hydrophobic domains and mediate signal transduction events involved in cell development, activation, growth, and motility.
CD151 is a cell surface glycoprotein that complexes with integrins and other tetraspanins, participating in cell adhesion and potentially regulating integrin trafficking or function.
It enhances cell motility, invasion, and metastasis of cancer cells. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described.
