The Myb family of transcription factors, including A-, B-, and c-Myb, regulate differentiation, cellular growth, and gene expression.
c-Myb is essential for controlling proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic cells, with its levels decreasing as cells reach terminal differentiation.
Myb-binding protein 1A (MYBBP1A) is a nuclear protein predominantly localized in nucleoli. Initially identified as a c-Myb-interacting protein, MYBBP1A is ubiquitously expressed and associates with various transcription factors. It interacts with the aromatic hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), enhancing transactivation and AhR-dependent gene expression. MYBBP1A also negatively regulates PPAR gamma coactivator 1 alpha (PGC-1 alpha) via p38 MAPK and functions as a nucleocytoplasmic shuttling protein using CRM1-dependent and independent export pathways.
