Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.
Target Information
CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen, CD66e) is synthesized during fetal gut development and re-expressed in intestinal carcinomas and other tumors. It belongs to the immunoglobulin supergene family, comprising one N domain and six immunoglobulin constant-like A and B domains.
Antibodies to CEA are useful for identifying the origin of metastatic adenocarcinomas and distinguishing pulmonary adenocarcinomas (60–70% CEA+) from pleural mesotheliomas (rarely or weakly CEA+).
CEA functions as a cell-cell adhesion molecule and plays roles in tissue differentiation, angiogenesis, apoptosis, tumor suppression, metastasis, and immune response modulation. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been reported.
