Target Information
Genes encoding LIM domain-binding factors were initially isolated in a screen for proteins that physically interact with the LIM domains of nuclear proteins. These proteins, such as the one encoded by the LDB2 gene, can bind various transcription factors and function at enhancers to form or block higher-order activation complexes. LIM domain-binding factors include mouse genes Clim1 and Clim2/Lbd1/Nli, and homologs cloned from frog, chicken, and fly. Their role in coordinating transcriptional activity of diverse factors may relate to human phenotypes with multiple affected sites.
