Target Information
MAPK7 (ERK5) serine/threonine kinase is a member of the MAP kinase family involved in cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation, and development.
MAPK7 is activated by MAP2K5/MEK5 and mediates downstream signaling of various receptors. Upon extracellular stimulation, MAPK7 translocates to the nucleus to regulate gene expression by phosphorylating transcription factors.
Gene deletion of MAPK7 in mice leads to defective blood vessel and cardiac development, resulting in embryonic lethality. It is essential for endothelial function and vascular integrity.
ERK5 is expressed in many adult tissues, abundantly in heart, placenta, lung, kidney, and skeletal muscle, but not detectable in liver.
