Target Information

MAPK7 (ERK5) serine/threonine kinase is a member of the MAP kinase family and is involved in various cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation, and development.
MAPK7 is activated by MAP2K5 (MEK5) and participates in downstream signaling of multiple receptors. Upon extracellular stimulation, MAPK7 translocates to the nucleus to regulate gene expression by phosphorylating transcription factors.
Gene deletion of MAPK7 in mice leads to defective blood vessel and cardiac development, resulting in embryonic lethality. It is critical for endothelial function and vascular integrity.
ERK5 is expressed in many adult tissues, including heart, placenta, lung, kidney, and skeletal muscle, but is not detectable in liver.
