이 단백질은 간, 뇌, 비장, 신장에서 합성되며, 세포 간 콜레스테롤 이동 조절에 관여합니다. 또한 매우 저밀도 지단백(VLDL)과 킬로미크론 형성에도 중요한 역할을 합니다.
Apo E 유전자는 염색체 19의 19q13.2 위치에 존재합니다.
