Target Information
SLC29A3 is a member of the equilibrative nucleoside transporter family, essential for nucleoside and nucleobase uptake in nucleotide salvage pathways.
This transmembrane glycoprotein localizes to the lysosomal membrane and functions as a broad selectivity, low affinity nucleoside transporter.
Mutations in SLC29A3 are linked to H syndrome, characterized by cutaneous hyperpigmentation, hypertrichosis, hepatosplenomegaly, heart anomalies, and hypogonadism.
A related disorder, PHID (pigmented hypertrichosis with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus), is also associated with mutations at this locus.
