Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is a membrane protein expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It plays key roles in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis by mediating recognition and uptake of oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells. CD36 also functions as a receptor for thrombospondin and collagen and is implicated in the cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes. Mutations in CD36 can lead to platelet glycoprotein deficiency and are associated with coronary heart disease.
