Target Information
The PATZ1 protein contains an A-T hook DNA binding motif that interacts with other DNA-binding structures and plays a key role in chromatin remodeling and transcriptional regulation. Its POZ domain mediates protein-protein interactions required for transcriptional repression, while the zinc-finger domain constitutes the DNA-binding region. PATZ1 functions as a transcription factor and is postulated to act as a gene expression repressor. In small round cell sarcoma, PATZ1 can fuse with EWS by a small inversion of 22q, forming a chimeric transcript (t(1;22)(p36.1;q12)) that retains the transactivation domain of EWS and the zinc-finger domain of PATZ1. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.
