Target Information

AMPK Beta 2 is a regulatory subunit of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK).
AMPK is a heterotrimer consisting of an alpha catalytic subunit, and non-catalytic beta and gamma subunits.
It functions as an important energy-sensing enzyme that monitors cellular energy status.
In response to metabolic stress, AMPK becomes activated and phosphorylates key enzymes such as acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR), regulating fatty acid and cholesterol biosynthesis.
The beta-2 subunit may act as a positive regulator of AMPK activity and serve as an adaptor mediating complex assembly.
Myristoylation and phosphorylation of this subunit influence enzyme activity and subcellular localization.
