Target Information
ZNF423 is a transcription factor that functions as both an activator and a repressor depending on context. It plays a central role in BMP signaling and olfactory neurogenesis. ZNF423 associates with SMADs in response to BMP2 to activate BMP target gene transcription. It also acts as a transcriptional repressor through interaction with EBF1, preventing EBF1 from binding DNA and activating olfactory-specific genes. ZNF423 is involved in the developmental switch regulating differentiation and maturation in olfactory receptor neurons and controls neural precursor proliferation and differentiation during cerebellar vermis formation.
