Target Information
Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC, localizes with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It is recruited during tight junction maturation and is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and xenografts compared to normal breast tissue. Metadherin binds to lung vasculature, one of the common sites of breast cancer metastasis, via a C-terminal extracellular domain segment. Blocking this domain with antibodies or siRNA has been reported to inhibit breast cancer metastasis.
