Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the regulator of G-protein signaling (RGS) family. The protein contains a conserved 120 amino acid RGS domain that attenuates G-protein signaling by binding to activated, GTP-bound G alpha subunits and acting as a GTPase activating protein (GAP). This increases the rate of GTP hydrolysis to GDP, allowing G alpha subunits to reassociate with G beta/gamma heterodimers, forming inactive G-protein complexes and terminating the signal. Alternate transcriptional splice variants have been observed but not fully characterized.
