Target Information
IDI1 encodes a peroxisomally-localized enzyme that catalyzes the interconversion of isopentenyl diphosphate (IPP) to its isomer dimethylallyl diphosphate (DMAPP). These substrates are essential for the synthesis of farnesyl diphosphate and cholesterol.
In peroxisomal deficiency diseases such as Zellweger syndrome and neonatal adrenoleukodystrophy, reduced IPP isomerase activity has been observed.
