Target Information
UBE3A (ubiquitin-protein ligase E3A, also known as E6AP) is an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that transfers ubiquitin from an E2 conjugating enzyme to substrate proteins. Known substrates include ARNTL/BMAL1, ARC, RAD23A, RAD23B, MCM7, annexin A1, PML tumor suppressor, and CDKN1B.
UBE3A also functions in cellular quality control by promoting degradation of misfolded cytoplasmic proteins and plays a role in circadian rhythm regulation.
Defects in UBE3A are associated with Angelman syndrome (AS).
