This antibody detects endogenous levels of total PTHB1 / BBS9 protein.
Target Information
The BBSome complex functions as a coat complex required for sorting specific membrane proteins to the primary cilia. It is essential for ciliogenesis but not for centriolar satellite function. This function is mediated in part by the Rab8 GDP/GTP exchange factor, which localizes to the basal body and interacts with the BBSome. Rab8(GTP) enters the primary cilium and promotes extension of the ciliary membrane. The BBSome associates with the ciliary membrane, binds to RAB3IP/Rabin8 (the GEF for Rab8), and facilitates Rab8-GTP localization to the cilium, promoting docking and fusion of carrier vesicles to the base of the ciliary membrane. Proper BBSome complex assembly and ciliary localization depend on this process.
