Target Information

Casein kinase II (CK2) is a protein serine/threonine kinase present in all eukaryotic cells, indicating fundamental cellular functions. The holoenzyme is a tetramer containing two alpha or alpha-prime subunits (or one of each) and two beta subunits. The alpha subunit serves as the catalytic unit, while the beta subunit’s function remains unclear.
CK2 can phosphorylate key intracellular signaling proteins involved in tumor suppression (p53, PTEN) and tumorigenesis (myc, jun, NF-kappaB). It also influences Wnt signaling via beta-catenin phosphorylation and the PI3K pathway via Akt phosphorylation.
