Product Specific Information

  • Detects endogenous protein at a molecular weight of 51 kDa.
  • Purity is >95% by SDS-PAGE.

Target Information

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, causing hyperpolarization of the membrane through the opening of a Cl⁻ channel associated with the GABA-A receptor (GABA-A R) subtype.
GABA-A Rs are important therapeutic targets for sedative, anxiolytic, and hypnotic agents, and are implicated in diseases such as epilepsy, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse.

The GABA-A receptor is a multimeric subunit complex composed of six alpha, four beta, and four gamma subunits, along with alternative splicing variants. Expression of alpha and beta subunits results in functional GABA-A receptors sensitive to GABA, while coexpression with a gamma subunit is required for benzodiazepine modulation.
Different alpha subunits may mediate various benzodiazepine effects in the brain, and phosphorylation of beta subunits modulates receptor function.
