Target Information
The Ras p21 family of guanine nucleotide proteins plays a key role in signal transduction and is often mutated in human malignancies. Ras proteins (H-, K-, and N-Ras p21) belong to a larger superfamily including Rap1A, Rap1B, Rap2, R-Ras, RalA, and RalB, which share ~50% amino acid homology with Ras. Six mammalian Rho proteins (RhoA, B, C, G, 7, and 8) are ~30% homologous to Ras and expressed in various cell types. Both Ras p21 and Rho p21 contain a carboxy-terminal CAAX sequence (C: cysteine; A: aliphatic amino acid; X: any amino acid) essential for proper localization and function.
