Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs act as signaling molecules regulating various cellular processes, including cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants exist: one encodes a receptor-type PTP with a short extracellular domain, a single transmembrane region, and two tandem intracytoplasmic catalytic domains; the other encodes a nonreceptor-type isoform with a distinct hydrophilic N-terminus. Mouse studies suggest regulatory roles in RAS-related signaling, cytokine-induced STAT signaling, and activation of voltage-gated K⁺ channels.
