Target Information
MCL1 (Myeloid cell leukemia-1) belongs to the Bcl-2 family and plays a key role in differentiation and maintenance of cell viability. Isoform 1 inhibits apoptosis, while isoform 2 promotes it. The C-terminal region shares sequence homology with Bcl-2.
MCL1 expression increases upon exposure to DNA-damaging agents such as ionizing or ultraviolet radiation. It is mainly associated with mitochondria and helps maintain cell survival under apoptotic conditions.
MCL1 is essential for embryogenesis and the development of B and T lymphocytes. Two isoforms, MCL1L and MCL1S, have opposing effects on cell survival, with MCL1S promoting apoptosis.
