Target Information
MYLK (MLCK) is a serine/threonine kinase that phosphorylates myosin regulatory light chains, enabling contractile activity through myosin-actin interaction. It plays a key role in smooth muscle contraction, vascular permeability, and tissue edema formation. In the nervous system, MYLK influences astrocytic process growth and transmitter release at synapses. It also participates in fibroblast apoptosis signaling. Smooth muscle and non-muscle isoforms are widely expressed in adult and fetal tissues, with non-muscle isoform 2 being the dominant variant. The Telokin isoform binds calmodulin and is expressed in various tissues. MYLK contains one fibronectin type III domain and nine immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains.
