Target Information
The NMDA Receptor (NMDAR) plays an essential role in memory and neuronal development, and has been implicated in several central nervous system disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and ischemic neuronal cell death. It is also a principal molecular target for alcohol in the CNS and is potentiated by protein phosphorylation. The NR1 protein can form NMDA-activated channels in Xenopus oocytes, but physiological channel characteristics are obtained when NR1 combines with one or more NMDAR2 (NR2 A–D) subunits.
