Target Information
SIRT3 is a member of the sirtuin family of proteins, homologous to the yeast Sir2 protein. Members of this family are characterized by a sirtuin core domain and are grouped into four classes. While the functions of human sirtuins are not yet fully determined, yeast sirtuin proteins regulate epigenetic gene silencing and suppress recombination of rDNA. Studies suggest that human sirtuins may function as intracellular regulatory proteins with mono-ADP-ribosyltransferase activity. SIRT3 belongs to class I of the sirtuin family.
