Target Information
Catalase is a homotetrameric heme-containing enzyme located within peroxisomes. It catalyzes the conversion of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen. Human catalase includes the C-terminal sequence (-KANL) for peroxisome targeting and has a monomer molecular weight of 61.3 kDa. Catalase is involved in inflammation, mutagenesis, apoptosis prevention, and tumor stimulation. Deficiency of catalase results in acatalasemia (Takahara’s disease).
