Target Information
The PKC family of serine/threonine kinases, including PRKCG (PKC gamma), is activated by intracellular signal transduction pathways. In humans, at least 12 PKC isoforms exist, differing in structure, localization, and substrate specificity. The conventional family (PKC alpha, beta I, beta II, gamma) is Ca²⁺- and phospholipid-dependent. PKC gamma is neuron-specific, expressed in brain and spinal cord, and plays roles in neuronal functions such as long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD). Knockout studies suggest involvement in neuropathic pain, and mutations are linked to spinocerebellar ataxia-14 (SCA14).
