Target Information
Poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation is an immediate DNA damage-dependent post-translational modification of histones and other nuclear proteins that contributes to the survival of injured proliferating cells. Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerases (PARPs) comprise a family of 18 proteins with conserved catalytic domains. Among them, PARP-1 (113 kDa) and PARP-2 (62 kDa) are directly activated by DNA strand breaks. Novel PARP members expand the role of poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation in cell proliferation, death, and regulation through shared partners and subcellular localization.
