MA1-23047 detects the beta subunit of human soluble guanylate cyclase.
Target Information
Guanylate cyclases belong to the adenylyl cyclase class-4/guanylyl cyclase family. There are two forms of guanylate cyclase:
- Soluble form (sGC or GCS): Acts as a receptor for nitric oxide (NO).
- Membrane-bound form (GC): Serves as a peptide hormone receptor.
sGC is a cGMP-synthesizing enzyme and the major receptor for NO, playing a key role in smooth muscle contractility, platelet reactivity, and neurotransmission. It is a heme-containing heterodimer composed of a 72 kDa alpha subunit and a 65 kDa beta subunit. The heme moiety mediates NO activation and can also bind carbon monoxide, which weakly stimulates the enzyme.
