Target Information
Aquaporin 4 (AQP4), also known as mercurial-insensitive water channel, is localized to the sarcolemma of fast-twitch skeletal muscle fibers.
Aquaporins (AQPs) are integral membrane water channel proteins that facilitate water transport across cell membranes and are conserved across animals, plants, and bacteria.
Mammalian AQPs are designated AQP0–AQP10 and can coexist within the same cell. While most AQPs are selective for water, AQP3, AQP7, AQP9, and one AQP10 transcript are also permeable to urea and glycerol.
