Target Information
STING is a 379-amino-acid signaling protein that plays a crucial role in innate immune signaling. It activates NF-kappa-B and IRF3 transcription pathways to induce type I interferon expression (IFN-α and IFN-β), establishing a strong antiviral state.
STING may function as a translocon influencing interferon induction and is involved in apoptotic signal transduction via association with MHC-II. It facilitates detection of intracellular viral RNA and B-form DNA and mediates death signaling through ERK pathway activation.
Primarily localized to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, cell membrane, and mitochondrial outer membrane, STING is ubiquitously expressed across most tissues.
