Product Specific Information

PA1-725 detects transducin beta (T beta) from sheep, bovine, mouse, and drosophila.
It has been successfully used in Western blot procedures, detecting an ~37 kDa protein representing Tr beta from retinal and optic nerve extracts of sheep and bovine, as well as mouse eye samples and drosophila.
The immunizing peptide corresponds to amino acid residues 8–25 from human Tr beta, completely conserved between human, amphibian, bovine, and rat.
PA1-725 immunizing peptide (Cat. # PEP-154) is available for use in neutralization and control experiments.

Target Information

Vision involves conversion of light into electrochemical signals processed by the retina and brain.
Rhodopsin absorbs light and becomes catalytically active, activating transducin—a GTP-binding protein. Activated transducin promotes cGMP hydrolysis by phosphodiesterase (PDE), reducing intracellular cGMP and causing ion channel closure and membrane hyperpolarization, leading to signal transmission.
Rhodopsin activity is terminated by phosphorylation followed by arrestin binding.
Rod transducin consists of Tr alpha, T beta, and T gamma; cone transducin consists of Tc alpha, T beta, and T gamma.
Differences in subunit composition contribute to varying light sensitivities between photoreceptive cells.
