Target Information

Podoplanin (PDPN, T1A, gp38, Aggrus) is a mucin-type I glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 40–43 kDa. It is expressed in various tumors and normal cells, notably lymphatic epithelial and follicular dendritic cells. Podoplanin localizes in stromal cells of peripheral lymphoid tissue and thymic epithelial cells and plays a role in maintaining podocyte morphology. It serves as a ligand for CLEC-2, and its expression correlates with tumor invasiveness and metastatic potential. Podoplanin participates in cell migration, metastasis formation, and tumor invasion, and its expression is induced via Src activation of Cas. Recent studies indicate podoplanin presence on Th17 cells and a distinct subset of CD4+ cells from human PBMC. Dysfunction of podoplanin is associated with diseases such as lymphangioma and subglottic neoplasm, and it is proposed as a marker for lung injury due to its physiological role.
