이 유전자 변이는 희귀 야맹증 형태인 fundus albipunctatus를 유발하며, 이는 원뿔 및 간상세포 색소 재생 지연을 특징으로 합니다.
대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 전사체 변형이 존재하며, 인접한 BLOC1S1 유전자와의 read-through 전사도 보고되어 있습니다.
