Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a cofactor required by pancreatic lipase for efficient dietary lipid hydrolysis. It binds to the C-terminal, non-catalytic domain of lipase, stabilizing its active conformation and increasing the hydrophobic binding site. This cofactor allows lipase to anchor noncovalently to lipid micelles, counteracting the destabilizing effect of bile salts. Expression is limited to pancreatic acinar cells, suggesting tissue-specific regulation. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
