Target Information

Ribosomes are organelles responsible for catalyzing protein synthesis, composed of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits include 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins.
The RPL8 gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is part of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L2P family. It is localized in the cytoplasm and associates with 5.8S rRNA, participating in aminoacyl-tRNA binding and forming part of the elongation factor 2-binding site at the ribosomal subunit interface.
Alternative splicing variants encoding the same protein exist. As typical for ribosomal protein genes, multiple processed pseudogenes are dispersed throughout the genome.
