Target Information
Catalyzes the third of the four reactions in the long-chain fatty acid elongation cycle. This endoplasmic reticulum-bound enzyme adds two carbons per cycle to long- and very long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs). It catalyzes dehydration of 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA to trans-2,3-enoyl-CoA, contributing to VLCFA production essential for membrane lipid and lipid mediator synthesis. Also involved in Rac1-signaling pathways, gene expression modulation, and insulin receptor autophosphorylation/internalization (PubMed:25687571).
