Target Information
Gap junctions are specialized structures on plasma membranes of contacting adherent cells, consisting of closely packed transmembrane channels. These channels are formed by connexin proteins, which vary among tissues and are named based on molecular mass. Connexins are categorized as alpha or beta types according to sequence similarity.
