Target Information
The GABRE gene encodes the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) A receptor epsilon subunit, part of the ligand-gated ionic channel family (TC 1.A.9). This receptor mediates fast inhibitory synaptic transmission in the central nervous system. The gene is located on chromosome Xq28 in a cluster with alpha 3, beta 4, and theta subunit genes. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, but only one is known to encode a functional protein.
