UGT1A6는 UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 효소로, 스테로이드, 빌리루빈, 호르몬, 약물과 같은 소수성 분자를 수용성 대사산물로 전환시키는 글루쿠로니데이션 경로에 관여합니다. 이 유전자는 여러 UDP-glucuronosyltransferase를 암호화하는 복합 유전자 좌위에 속하며, 13개의 고유한 첫 번째 엑손과 4개의 공통 엑손으로 구성되어 있습니다. 9개의 첫 번째 엑손은 각각 고유한 프로모터에 의해 조절되며, 서로 다른 N-말단과 동일한 C-말단을 가진 단백질을 생성합니다. 효소는 주로 페놀성 및 평면 구조 화합물에 작용하며, 대체 스플라이싱에 의해 두 가지 전사체 변형을 생성할 수 있습니다.
