SAP18은 히스톤 아세틸화에 관여하며, 진핵생물 유전자 발현 조절에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 이 단백질은 SIN3, SAP30, HDAC1, HDAC2, RbAp46, RbAp48 등의 폴리펩타이드를 포함하는 히스톤 디아세틸화 복합체의 구성 요소입니다. SAP18은 SIN3와 직접 상호작용하며, 프로모터에 결합될 때 SIN3 매개 전사 억제를 강화합니다. 또한 염색체 2에서 유사유전자가 확인되었습니다.
