Target Information

NMDAR2B is a member of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) class of ionotropic glutamate receptors. NMDA receptors (NMDAR) are involved in long-term potentiation, an activity-dependent increase in synaptic transmission efficiency related to memory and learning.
NMDAR plays a role in neuronal development and is implicated in several central nervous system disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and ischemic neuronal cell death.
Overexpression of the NR2B subunit is linked to enhanced learning and memory, while reduced NR2B expression is observed in aged or memory-impaired subjects. Phosphorylation of Tyr1472 on NR2B may increase NMDAR expression at synapses, contributing to synaptic plasticity.
NMDAR2B forms a heterotrimer with NR1, NR2, and NR3 subunits. Dysfunction of NMDAR2B is associated with epileptic encephalopathy and autosomal dominant 6-related mental retardation.
